Mass Media and Advertisement
Twenty-three newspapers are distributed in the oblast (a regional newspaper, a city paper and 21 district papers) co-founded by government. Published since 1917 the papers Pravda and Dniaprovets are the oldest papers in the region. Twelve papers are issued by industrial enterprises, educational establishments and TV and radio association. Besides, state-owned papers there are more than 40 independent papers as well as two magazines—the Palessye and the Neftianik Polesya, the latter belongs to the company “Belorusneft”.
There is a local branch of the National TV and Radio Company in Gomel oblast, local radio studios in every town of the oblast. Gomel, Mozyr, Rechitsa, Svetlogorsk and Zhlobin have their own independent cable TV companies.
Gomeloblpochta (Gomel region mail service) is the largest distributor of printed mass media in Gomel oblast. Hundreds of newspapers and magazines published in other regions of Belarus and abroad are distributed through regional state-owned and private retail chains.
In the information sphere the region has all necessary means to provide the public with the information on the activity of state-owned enterprises and profit-making companies, foreign and joint ventures. Adverts are published by almost all periodicals issued in the region.
