Lukashenko names policy in eastern direction successful
05.04.2012
MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – Belarus’ policy in the eastern direction is successful, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko told the government session held on 5 April to discuss foreign policy matters.
Once again the President underlined the entire foreign policy should be based primarily on the development of trade with various countries and regions. “It is our economy, it is our life. We will live as well as we can trade,” he said.
According to the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, in 2012 foreign currency proceeds increased by about 30% in comparison with the same period of last year. “It is a very good indicator that characterizes our foreign policy,” remarked the President.
“We can settle for results achieved by the policy in the eastern direction – Russia, Kazakhstan, and China… Over there we have rather positive tendencies for cooperation and borrowing, for selling our products,” said Alexander Lukashenko.
The head of state said it was remarkable that the Single Economic Space has been established by Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia sooner than expected. “In the East we have rather good results of our foreign policy efforts. Certainly, we cannot relax but should enhance our capabilities,” concluded Alexander Lukashenko.
